Because some people have been asking me to give tips on posing, I've put together this little tutorial. I'm posting it separately from tips on photography, because it's really more on what needs to happen before you take the camera and start shooting.
Introduction:
I think I can say with a measure of surety that pretty often doll photographers are not taken seriously. A lot of times, though, it is our fault. We - as doll collectors and affectionados - get so carried away by OMGlookithowPRETTY!!! feeling, we forget that others may not see it the same way. However! We can totally help the average Joe (or Jane) see the awesomeness of our dolls. In this tutorial I will attempt to give some tips on various aspects of the doll photography styling. If there are points that I did not cover, and you think I might know something, please do not hesitate to ask. I'll be happy to add to this tutorial. Also, if you have tips to offer - please do so, and I can include them, as well (with hat tip to the author of suggestion, of course).
On to the tips!

Comparison: Babies vs. 11" Dolls
When D2 was born, people would tell me, "Aw, now you have your own doll
to play with, you'll have no time for your other ones," meaning, of
course, my Momokos (and JACK!)
Aside from the obvious "your own" bit, because, as we all know, babies are property, as opposed to dolls made out of plastic (amirite?), the statement still made no sense to me, because, I don't know, my Momokos can sit on their shelf and wait for me to get enough sleep to maybe redress them, but babies…. you can't do that with babies.
However, eventually, I started thinking that perhaps I needed to make a comparison write-up, like we do for Fashion Royalty vs. Momokos vs. Obitsu etc.
It took a little longer than I thought, considering D2 is firmly out of babyhood and into a life-affirming toddlerhood, but here it is:

Public Doll Photography
Things got away from me yesterday. Apparently, D1 had a science test to prepare for. I mean, those things just jump out at you with no warning. My brother used to inform my mom that a teacher jumped out at him on his way home and told him there was a test/project was due/etc. the next day. D1 is not quite THAT dramatic, but he cuts it pretty close, as well.
ANYWAY, so to combine a lengthy writing post and a DIY Friday post, I give you a post on learning how to shed all sense of embarrassment and social awkwardness while taking photos of your dolls in public.
In this tutorial I will attempt to give real-life tips for people of varying social timidity on how to overcome said timidity and concentrate on what's important - the doll photography, of course!

Smidge Girl's Cubby Shelf Overflow
O. M. and even G! These are beyond awesome, especially the Union Jack one, though I like the clean graphic ones, too. I might actually break down and buy one when she makes up her mind about which to sell. If I get to her etsy store early enough, that is ^_^
